Antique 18th Century Gold Double Sided Pendant Miniatures Of Eros Amor
About the Item
This delightful double sided pendant was created in the last two decades of the eighteenth century out of 18 karat rose gold. The rectangular pendant frame is suspended from three rose gold gold chains terminating in a facetted split ring. The links of the two outer chains are engraved and decorated with applied ornaments. The chain in the centre is made up from links with cut out engraved ornaments .
The two miniatures are depicting two different images of eros / amor. Both are painted in gouache on paper.
One miniature shows amor in a lozenge surround
standing in a garden. He holding his bow with his left hand and is in the process of taking an arrow out of his quiver. The other miniature is showing eros, also in a lozenge surround, as a follower of Dionysos (respectively amor as a follower of Bacchus) standing in a vine yard, clad with vine leaves, holding a bunch of grapes in his right hand and a chalice in his left hand.
One glass panel is not original.
